Taib: We are drawing up systematic welfare policy
SIBU: Sarawak is in the midst of drawing up a systematic welfare policy for the people, regardless of racial, religious and social background, said Chief Minister Tan Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud.“We are discussing what we can afford to do and how the system should work to benefit the people,” he said.Taib said the systematic welfare policy would also include a revision of the present list of welfare recipients.“I have instructed the Social Development and Urbanisation Ministry to revise the list from time to time to make sure every deserving member in our society receives assistance from the government,” he said to a crowd of about 2,000 people at the Harmonious Night Gala Dinner organised by seven Chinese clan associations here on Thursday night.Taib said the state government was also working hard to eradicate urban poverty following the rising cost of living due to rapid urbanisation.“The state government, in the last one year, has been designing the policy on how to overcome urban poverty in the state to create a more prosperous society,” he said. — Bernama

（砂拉越．詩巫）首席部長丹斯里泰益瑪目籲請華裔在政治上作出的抉擇，一定要確保族群能繼續在砂州政治主流中，而不要依賴外來政黨。
他清楚表明，外來政黨並無法將砂州華裔納入砂州政治主流，只有砂州國陣執政黨能夠。
針對砂州華裔被排除在政治主流外的可能性，他指出：“如果華社被忽略了，我將會感到遺憾。”
泰益瑪目也希望大家相信他，他差不多要退休了，並殷切希望在一個馬來西亞概念下，看到華社的的發展。
詩巫取得今日的發展成就，是因為詩巫的領袖與他密切地合作，由於彼此的關係親近，所以他知道詩巫的問題。
他表示，從丹斯里黃順開時代開始，到今天的拿督斯里黃順舸，情況都是一樣。
泰益瑪目昨晚出席詩巫七大鄉屬舉辦的“親善之夜”上致詞。
他分享詩巫領袖與他密切合作后所帶來的發展成果。
拉讓江不宜輪船駛入
泰益瑪目說，當初他向黃順舸闡述，詩巫不適於成為一個主要的港口，拉讓江不適合大輪船駛入，所以在運輸方面可能會受到一定的阻礙，而且運輸費也會因此提升。
“因此詩巫若要持續生存，就必須另覓地點，所以才有了發展丹絨瑪尼成為主要港口的計劃，讓大貨船可以直接將貨物運至該港口。”
泰益瑪目強調，詩巫雖然不能成為主要港口，但卻可以成為一個重要的服務中心，同時也可成為貨物運輸的轉站。
當政府發展丹絨瑪尼時，黃順舸提出要求，即將連接詩巫和丹絨瑪尼的交通系統列為首要項目。這是第九大馬計劃下的最大工程 ，耗資5億2千萬令吉。
黃順舸致力為巫爭取發展
泰益瑪目說，這就是黃順舸，一直為詩巫爭取發展，黃順舸不似其他的政治人物只會空喊 。
他指出，黃順舸知道他的想法，而他感受到黃順舸的誠意。兩人誠意地討論各項發展。黃順舸的用意很清楚，即銜接詩巫的道路一定要做好 。
於是，首長帶著黃順舸去見首相拿督斯里納吉，由黃順舸向首相解釋他的建議和要求。最后，黃順舸成功說服首相。
泰益瑪目說，這就是兩人合作的方式。也唯有通過這樣的方式，地方才會進步。
他稱，華社妄想將彼等的問題交予一些只會空喊的人，期待這些人為華社解決問題，因為他們只會使問題更複雜。這些人並不知道如何治國。

诗巫七乡属公会 获10万拨款充活动经费
（本报诗巫8日讯）砂州首席部长丕显斯里泰益玛目宣布拨出10万令吉予诗巫七乡属公会，做为慈善活动经费。 他赞扬，诗巫七乡属公会，为属下会员，甚至是为社会所做出的慈善工作和福利活动。
他表示，社会的慈善福利工作并不能单靠政府去进行，社团公会的协助扮演重要角色。
他是于昨晚受邀出席由诗巫七乡属公会主办的“亲善之夜晚宴”上致词时如此表示。
他指出，社会福利工作方面仍有待加强，以便可以让真正所需要帮助的不幸一群受惠。社会福利的工作其实与社会问题是息息相关的，因此，州政府非常重视社会福利工作。
“这也是体现，首相拿督里纳吉所提倡的一个马来西亚理念，人民为先，绩效为首。”
首长透露，州政府将会进一步的提升州内的福利工作，其中，将在2012年带进州内阁展开新的州福利政策计划。他说，当然，这要假如他届时仍然是砂州首长。
“旧的政策必须予以检讨和更新，以便符合时代进步的需求，尤其是低收入和高收入群之间的分歧等问题。”
他认为，福利政策应定时检讨，确保社会上每一个需要帮助的人，不论是伊班人、马来人、华人、比达友或是乌鲁等，都可以获得一样的，由政府所提供的帮助。”
他已指示，社会发展与城市化部检讨受惠者名单。
